Breathedge 2 Gathering Tools: Materials, Repairs & Maintenance
Updated · Breathedge 2 Wiki
Bring the Cutter for Wires, Rubber, Fabric and tape patches; the Thumper for surface Aluminum; the Twister for Techbits in parking racks; and the crowbar for Metal, Titanium, Ice and Plastic sources. Deep asteroid deposits need a Pounding rig. Maintenance and repair materials should be part of the trip plan.
Gathering interactions, compatible tools and repair materials: Steam Build 25584330, updated October 4, 2026. Source types and areas help you search; yields vary with the object and your equipment.
In this guide
What are you gathering?
Find a material or a source you recognize, then choose the tool for that interaction. Surface and deep deposits can need different equipment.
17 matching gathering sources
Metal balls and compatible breakable objects
Ship and station wreckage
Bring: Crowbar / Scrap
Use the breakable-object list for specific drops; not every container contains Metal.
Plan the tool →Deep metal deposit
Rare asteroid deposits
Bring: Pounding rig
A deep deposit needs a Pounding rig rather than the surface gathering interaction.
Plan the tool →Titanium balls
Floating wreckage
Bring: Crowbar / Scrap
Distinguish loose breakable balls from deep deposits.
Plan the tool →Deep titanium deposit
Rare asteroid deposits
Bring: Pounding rig
Bring the rig for this source; the crowbar is used for breakable Titanium balls.
Plan the tool →Breakable ice
Ice formations and floating ice balls
Bring: Crowbar / Scrap
Gather crafting Ice from compatible breakable sources; some quest ice has its own required interaction.
Plan the tool →Hardened plastic in broken pipes
Ship and station wreckage
Bring: Crowbar / Scrap
Look around broken utility lines for swollen or exposed plastic tubes.
Plan the tool →Power stabilizer
Ship and station wreckage
Bring: Crowbar / Scrap
Refined metal is separate from ordinary Metal. Crafting provides another route.
Plan the tool →Surface aluminum deposit
Asteroids
Bring: Thumper
Keep the Thumper wound. Deep deposits use different equipment.
Plan the tool →Deep aluminum deposit
Rare asteroid deposits
Bring: Pounding rig
A Thumper cannot work this type of deep deposit.
Plan the tool →Exposed wiring
Ship and station wreckage
Bring: Cutter
Covered wires may first need access with the crowbar and your hands. The Cutter performs the gathering step.
Plan the tool →Rubber sheets
Surfaces of ship and station wreckage
Bring: Cutter
Look for insulating sheets attached to panels or bulkheads.
Plan the tool →Soft panels
Ship and station paneling
Bring: Cutter
Interior airlock panels are a useful material type to recognize.
Plan the tool →Tape patches on repaired objects
Exposed heat pipes and other patched structures
Bring: Cutter
Cut existing layers of tape free rather than searching only for loose rolls.
Plan the tool →Bales of waste paper
Ship and station wreckage
Bring: Cutter
Useful for suit panels; compare its protection in the Suit Planner.
Plan the tool →Foam panels and cushions
Ship and station wreckage
Bring: Cutter
Useful for suit panels, with tradeoffs beyond cold protection.
Plan the tool →Parking racks
Station wreckage and inhabited sectors
Bring: Twister
Use the unscrewing interaction. You can also compare the Techbits crafting recipe.
Plan the tool →Alkaline Mole burrows
Dark areas inside hollow asteroids
Bring: Spraytron
Use a suitable deposit interaction and deal with the Mole if present. Alkali and crafted Alkaline solution are separate supplies.
Plan the tool →Build 25584330. Locations describe source types and areas; they do not guarantee a fixed amount or a specific spawn. Read the gathering and maintenance guide →
Match the tool to the gathering interaction
| Tool | Main gathering uses | Before setting out |
|---|---|---|
| Crowbar / Scrap | Metal, Titanium, Ice, Plastic and breakable objects | Repair condition; no battery or ammunition |
| Cutter | Wires, Rubber, Fabric, tape patches, Cardboard and Foam | Sharpen dull blades and repair damage |
| Thumper | Surface Aluminum deposits | Manual winding and repair condition |
| Twister | Techbits in parking racks and compatible fasteners | Use the unscrewing interaction |
| Spraytron | Alkali deposit interactions and compatible cleaning jobs | Carry Alkaline solution |
| Pounding rig | Deep Aluminum, Metal and Titanium deposits | Bring the station for the deep-deposit interaction |
The material name alone does not identify the right tool. Aluminum appears in both surface and deep deposits, and opening a cover can be a separate action from gathering what is inside.
Use the material finder to narrow the source by the tools you can currently bring. It includes alternative deposit types for the same material.
Recognize useful sources beyond loose pickups
| Object | Material | Interaction |
|---|---|---|
| Parking rack | Techbits | Twister |
| Patches on heat pipes | Electrical tape | Cutter |
| Power stabilizer | Refined metal | Crowbar |
| Soft interior panels | Fabric | Cutter |
| Rubber sheets | Rubber | Cutter |
| Waste paper / foam panels | Cardboard / Foam | Cutter |
Look at the shape and purpose of the object, then match it to an interaction. A parking rack can be more useful for Techbits than another random container, while old tape wrapped around a pipe is still a material source.
Covered wiring may need the crowbar and a hand interaction to expose it. Once you can reach the Wires, use the Cutter for the gathering step.
Distinguish surface deposits from deep deposits
A surface Aluminum deposit can be worked with the Thumper. Deep Aluminum deposits need the Pounding rig; repeatedly using the small hand tool will not make it the right interaction.
The same rig is used for deep Metal and Titanium. Their loose breakable sources use the crowbar, so prepare for the source you actually plan to visit rather than for every possible source of the material.
A deep deposit does not establish a guaranteed production rate or an unlimited trip budget. Plan the station, its upkeep and a route back to oxygen before committing to a longer gathering stop.
Fix the problem the tool actually has
| Symptom or need | Action |
|---|---|
| Cutter becomes dull | Sharpen it |
| Thumper needs winding | Wind the mechanism |
| Spraytron runs out of liquid charge | Refill with Alkaline solution |
| A tool is damaged | Prepare that tool’s repair materials |
| Wrong tool prompt on an object | Switch to the required interaction |
Battery cells are not a universal solution. The crowbar, Cutter, Thumper and Twister do not need electrical batteries for their normal use. The Spraytron’s crafted liquid charge is a separate supply from the tool itself.
The Alkaline solution recipe uses 2 Alkali, 2 Ice and 1 Plastic. Keep enough charge for the intended job instead of spending every ingredient on unrelated repairs.
Pack a repair kit for the tools you carry
| Tool | Materials |
|---|---|
| Crowbar | 1 Metal |
| Cutter | 2 Aluminum, 1 Plastic |
| Thumper | 2 Metal, 1 Plastic |
| Spraytron | 1 Aluminum, 1 Wires, 1 Plastic |
These are repair requirements for an existing tool. They are not the costs of crafting replacements or a guarantee of how many gathering actions remain.
Use the repair goal for each tool that needs work and enter materials already in your inventory. You can keep the repair and crafting plans separate when deciding whether to fix a tool or make another one.
Treat quest obstacles as their own interactions
Recent quest fixes changed several interactions. Hotfix 0.8.7 moved compatible train crates, lampshades, robots and doors to the Twister interaction. Hotfix 0.8.8 requires the Cutter for the grate inside PornHubble.
A familiar object in an old video may therefore need a different tool in your game. Read the active prompt before repeatedly hitting it with the crowbar.
Oxyworm membranes are another Cutter obstacle. Clearing one can open a passage, but it is separate from the ordinary material budget for Wires or Fabric.
