Cardboard: Cutter Sources & Suit Protection
Cardboard protection panel
Gather Cardboard from waste paper with the Cutter. A full set of five Cardboard panels contributes 90 Cold Protection, alongside physical and electrical protection, making it a useful base for a mixed suit.
Add to material plan →Bring a working Cutter to inhabited wreckage
Look for waste-paper gathering objects around inhabited locations. Use the Cutter on a compatible object; loose Cardboard is a rarer pickup collected by hand. The usable part weighs 2 and has maximum durability 100.
If the Cutter becomes dull, sharpen it. Damage is a separate maintenance issue: its repair needs 2 Aluminum and 1 Plastic. Preparing both the tool and your return oxygen makes a panel-gathering run more useful than carrying an unprepared blade to the right object.
Place panels by their contribution
| Position | Cold | Physical | Electrical |
|---|---|---|---|
| Torso | 26 | 15 | 20 |
| Each arm | 18 | 8 | 16 |
| Each leg | 14 | 6 | 12 |
| All five | 90 | 43 | 76 |
The torso gives the largest contribution from one Cardboard piece. Both arms and both legs are individual positions, so a complete set uses five panels. These are panel contributions; add equipment and earned bonuses when judging your overall suit.
Use a mixed set to pass 100 cold
An all-Cardboard set is 10 short of 100 Cold Protection before other contributions. Replacing any three Cardboard panels with Foam adds 12 cold, giving 102 from the panels. Another combination uses one Knitted teddy bear and one Foam in place of two Cardboard panels, also totaling 102.
Foam sacrifices Cardboard’s physical and electrical protection in the replaced positions and increases hunger drain. Teddy-bear panels add radiation protection but carry physical penalties. Compare the entire result before installing the mix.
Fit panels before the cold trip
Use the wardrobe for suit upgrades and read the equipped protection display. Bring food if you chose Foam substitutions, and plan a reachable oxygen stop even after reaching your cold target.
