Search crates, panels and loose pickups

Look in inhabited-area crates and compatible panels. Use the Robo-Arm where panel removal is required; a rare loose bear can be collected by hand. The part weighs 1 and has maximum durability 100.

This source pattern differs from gathering Cardboard out of waste paper or cutting Foam panels. Bring the tool needed for the interaction you plan to use instead of expecting a Cutter to supply every type of suit filling.

Compare cold and radiation with the physical penalty

A full set gives the largest cold contribution of these three panel materials, plus radiation protection. It adds no electrical protection. The physical penalties are contributions to the complete suit, so include the defenses supplied by your other equipment.

Replacing Cardboard with Knitted teddy bear adds 8 cold in any of the five positions. One replacement takes an all-Cardboard set from 90 to 98, which is still short of 100 before equipment or bonuses. Two bear replacements produce 106; one bear and one Foam replacement produce 102.

Placement changes the other defenses. Replacing a Cardboard torso removes its 15 physical contribution and adds a −3 contribution. Replacing a leg removes 6 and adds −1. Compare that loss with the radiation benefit you need instead of moving every bear to the torso automatically.

Prepare for the next hazard after cold

A warm suit can still be a poor choice for a route involving physical or electrical danger. Fit the selected panels at the wardrobe, read the complete protection display, and carry food, water and oxygen supplies for the trip.
