Foam: Locations, 110 Cold Set & Tradeoffs

Find foam panels and use the Cutter

Search inhabited locations for compatible foam-panel gathering objects. Use the Cutter to collect the material, or pick up the rarer loose Foam by hand. Each part weighs 1 and has maximum durability 100.

A panel-gathering trip is a good reason to service your Cutter first. Sharpen a dull blade and carry its repair materials when needed: 2 Aluminum and 1 Plastic. The Cutter does not use a battery.

Count both legs at 18 cold each

The five-panel total is 30 + 22 + 22 + 18 + 18 = 110. Foam does not add physical, radiation or electrical protection in these positions. Include the rest of your equipment when comparing a complete suit.

Choose how much Foam the route needs

FoamCardboard

Each Foam substitution adds 4 cold over Cardboard in the same position. Starting from five Cardboard panels, three substitutions produce 102 cold and leave two Cardboard panels contributing physical and electrical protection.

Heat loss depends on placement. A Foam torso contributes −5 heat, while an arm or leg contributes −2. Three Foam limb panels therefore reach that same 102 cold total with −6 heat from Foam; a torso and two limbs contribute −9. The Suit Planner lets you compare the remaining defenses as well.

Pack for increased hunger drain

Foam raises hunger drain, so extra cold protection changes your food plan. Bring enough food for the outward route and return, then review your current hunger and oxygen before a detour. For a different compromise, Knitted teddy bear offers cold and radiation benefits without Foam’s hunger property, but reduces physical protection.
