Breathedge 2 Slow Movement: Overload, Fatigue & Food Bonuses

Updated · Breathedge 2 Wiki

QUICK ANSWER

If movement suddenly slows down, check your status icons and carried weight. Fatigue and overeating each carry a 10% movement penalty, Exhaustion carries 20%, and overload ranges from 20% to 40%. Critical overload also disables flight. Rest, stop overeating or unload according to the active warning.

Movement penalties, overload thresholds and food bonuses: Steam Build 25584330, October 4, 2026. The official 0.8.10 notes confirm reduced movement penalties for fatigue, overeating and overload. Percentages below describe each effect separately; your final movement speed also depends on other active effects and equipment.

Find the cause before spending supplies

  1. Read the active condition name on your HUD. Check Fatigue or Exhaustion, Overeating, and the three Overload stages first.
  2. Compare carried weight with your current capacity. If you are overloaded, store materials you do not need for the next objective or split the haul into more than one trip.
  3. Rest when Fatigue appears. If the warning is Exhaustion, make sleep your next priority.
  4. If Overeating appeared after a meal, stop eating and let the excess satiety decrease. Food is useful preparation, but another meal will not remove this warning.
  5. Check the HUD again after recovering. More than one condition can be active, so clearing one warning may leave another cause of slow movement.

Movement penalties by condition

Individual movement penalties · Build 25584330
Active stageMovement speedRecovery
Fatigue−10%Rest to recover.
Exhaustion−20%Sleep as soon as you can reach a safe rest point.
Overeating−10%Stop eating and let excess satiety decrease.
Overload−20%Reduce carried weight to your capacity or below, or upgrade your backpack.
Severe overload−30%Unload before continuing; return to your capacity or below to clear overload.
Critical overload−40%Drop or store enough weight to leave the critical stage, then keep unloading to clear overload.

Use the row matching the stage currently displayed. The three overload rows are different severity stages, so do not add them together.

These percentages help compare the severity of a warning. They are not a formula for combining Fatigue, Overeating, Overload, equipment and temporary bonuses into one final speed.

Overload starts above your carrying capacity

Carried weight relative to your current capacity
StageWeight rangeOther effects
OverloadAbove 100% through 150% of capacityFatigue drain +30%
Severe overloadAbove 150% through 200% of capacityFatigue drain +100%
Critical overloadAbove 200% of capacityFatigue drain +300%; flight disabled

Overload starts when carried weight exceeds 100% of your current capacity. Severe overload begins above 150%, and Critical overload begins above 200%. Return to 100% or less to remove the overload condition completely.

Unloading also reduces the fatigue pressure on the trip home. At the critical stage, flight is disabled as well as movement being slowed, so trying to fly away with the same haul is not a solution.

Work out the thresholds for your backpack

Read your current capacity in the inventory, including equipment and rewards. Multiply that number by 1.5 for the severe threshold and by 2 for the critical threshold.

For example, with a displayed capacity of 75, Overload starts above 75 carried weight, Severe overload above 112.5, and Critical overload above 150. These are strict “above” thresholds: reaching exactly 150 does not itself cross the critical threshold in this example.

Leaving the critical stage removes the overload restriction on flight, but you can still be severely overloaded. Keep unloading until your carried weight is at or below capacity if you want to clear the whole condition.

Recover from Fatigue and Exhaustion

Fatigue reduces movement speed by 10% and accuracy by 15%. Exhaustion has a 20% movement penalty, and its warning explicitly calls for sleep. Use the displayed stage to decide how urgently to return to a rest point.

Overload can make fatigue drain faster even while you are moving slowly. Reduce your load before a long return journey and rest before setting off again.

Since 0.8.10, Esc or the gamepad Cancel button can interrupt sleep. Check your rest level and end sleep after you have recovered.

Avoid overeating before a long trip

Overeating is the movement penalty associated with excess satiety. Stop eating and allow the excess to decrease naturally until the warning clears.

Check how much satiety is missing before using a large food item. A Nutrient pack restores 25 base satiety, while an Oxyworm kebab restores 60. Choose a portion that fits your current need instead of repeatedly eating to top up a nearly full meter.

Your useful food bonuses have different names from Overeating. Check the active icon before treating a food-related status as a problem.

Satiety, Well Fed and Fully sated are useful bonuses

Food bonus stages · Build 25584330
Active bonusDurationHunger drainAdditional benefit
Satiety60 seconds−20%Slower hunger drain
Well Fed90 seconds−40%Slower hunger drain
Fully sated120 seconds−60%Maximum health +10%

These are temporary benefits that make food last longer. Fully sated also increases maximum health by 10% while active; a maximum-health bonus should not be counted as an instant heal.

Read the bonus actually shown on your HUD. The table describes each active stage and its duration, without assigning a particular stage to every food item or promising that repeatedly eating upgrades it.

The similarly named Well nourished status is a separate benefit tied to your satiety level. It does not use the three timed stages in this table.

If movement still feels wrong

Check all remaining status icons after unloading and resting. Cold, injury and other hazards have their own recovery actions in the status reference. Also check whether a movement bonus you had been using has expired.

The 0.8.10 update reduced the three movement penalties covered here. Older advice may describe harsher slowdowns; compare your installed version with the Build 25584330 tables before treating the difference as a new problem.
