Inspect suitable remains for the pickup

Look for collectable Jaws in mouths on suitable remains. This is a rare item collected by hand when its interaction is available. The visible presence of remains does not mean every mouth has a usable part.

Jaws weigh 0.2 and have maximum part durability 100. They are easy to distinguish from a Bone handle by their upgrade role: Jaws are a Sharp part, while Bone belongs in the Scrap crowbar Handle slot.

Use the pickup to begin Cutter preparation

Collecting Jaws unlocks the Cutter recipe. Unlocking the recipe and assembling the tool are separate steps, so open the recipe page and prepare its ingredients after the pickup.

Scissors provide another pickup route to the same unlock. If you already found Scissors, Jaws can still be useful as a compatible upgrade; there is no need to delay Cutter crafting until both parts are in your inventory.

Choose the tool that receives the part

Compared with Scissors, Jaws add 5 more damage on the Cutter and 3 more on the Thumper at the same listed weight. Read the receiving tool’s replacement comparison when fitting the part. These are damage bonuses, not promised material yields per interaction.

Pack for the tool’s own upkeep

A Cutter needs sharpening when dull and repairs when damaged. A Thumper needs manual winding as well as repairs to its condition. Fitting Jaws does not replace those jobs. The Cutter repair uses 2 Aluminum and 1 Plastic; the Thumper repair uses 2 Metal and 1 Plastic.
